The Nimham Times
The one and only magazine serving Putnam County. The Nimham Times is a quarterly journal published in the months of January, April, July and October. The spectrum of the magazine's coverage includes:
History and historical fiction ~ Environmental issues ~ Politics ~ Interviews ~ Commentaries ~ Columns ~ Youth Write On ~ Book Reviews ~ Letters ~ Comedic Notions ~ Poetry ~ Art
The Nimham Times provides its readers with provocative, informative and entertaining stories and articles in each issue. The magazine is a reflection of the dynamism of life that was, and is Putnam, as well as being an expression of it. The Nimham Times is the publication to turn to for interviews with octogenarians, the only journal where you'll read the poetry of the Putnam Poets and the fiction of the Mahopac Writers Group, and where the issues of the day are not dealt with superficially. Constantly striving to present both sides of an issue whenever possible.Daniel Nimham was a Mohican Indian connected to the Wappinger Confederacy and lived during the period of the American Revolution. In essence he was a Mohican patriot, an individual committed to defending his homeland and his people against injustice. He allied himself with the American side in the Revolution and made the ultimate sacrifice...having died in the Battle of Kingsbridge along the Yonkers - Bronx border; and the dream of regaining his national homeland died with him. His descendants live on the Stockbridge-Munsee reservation in Wisconsin. So, it is our intent, in using the name Nimham, to honor him and to keep in the forefront our knowledge of the past, while discussing the present, and looking toward the future. The Nimham Times Magazine is... Putnam County!
